Middle School Athletic Policies and Procedures

Tampa Prep Athletics Department’s vision is to be a catalyst for fostering and advancing the School’s core values (Honesty, Respect, Kindness and Responsibility). Student-athletes, coaches, support staff and parents are tasked to focus on successful athletic contests, as well as on their practice and support of the School’s core values.

Tampa Prep Middle School Athletics is based on a philosophy of providing a safe environment to participate in sports. This environment focuses on developing a student-athlete, both technically and tactically, with an eye on developing non-cognitive skills such as perseverance, teamwork, sportsmanship and competitiveness. Middle School student-athletes have an opportunity to participate in an array of sports during their tenure in the Middle School. We believe the exposure to and participation in athletics supports the overall development of our student-athletes as young people. The guidelines and procedures below will assist you in successfully navigating the year. Please reach out to the Athletic Department with any questions.

Go Red...Go Gold!

Middle School Athletic Requirement

Required Forms

School forms must be submitted prior to participating in athletics. While we understand that it can be a cumbersome process to get all of this information filled out, it is necessary for us to have all of these on file at school. Students will NOT be allowed to participate in any tryouts, practices or contests until all of these forms are on file with Tampa Prep’s Health Coordinator, Betsy Zollinger. Visit www.tampaprep.org/forms to access the required forms.

Team Gear & Billing

At the end of each season, the student’s billing account might be charged for various items. If you have any questions about what type of items that they may be, please communicate with your student’s coach at the beginning of the season. Items can include: Team Pictures, sports equipment, T-shirts, etc.

Contest Times

The majority of the Middle School contest start times will be between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is a possibility, on occasion, when a team will have a start time after 5:30 p.m. or have a Saturday contest because of space availability. All contest schedules can be found at the Athletic Schedules and Results Page: www.tampaprep.org/athletics-schedule. All schedules are subject to change throughout the season. Parents are encouraged to check their student-athlete’s team schedule on a regular basis as the schedule can change due to weather cancellations, etc.

Varsity Sports

To ensure that all Middle School student-athletes who wish to try-out for an Upper School Varsity team have all required items accounted for; each student-athlete must get prior approval from the Middle School Director of Athletics John DeTringo. Student-athletes that have not communicated with Mr. DeTringo prior to the sport’s tryout date will not be allowed to participate until such communication takes place. If you have any questions about any of the items outlined in this letter, please contact Middle School Athletic Director, John DeTringo at jdetringo@tampaprep.org.
