Peifer Library

A dramatic, domed library resource center is the focal point of Tampa Prep’s 150,000 square-foot complex. The Tampa Prep Peifer Library is located on the third floor of the school and serves both the Upper School and Middle School Divisions. Peifer Library resources include eBooks as well as print, periodicals, online subscription services, a variety of videos, DVDs, a laser printer, a copier and iMac desktop computers. The space is set up for presentations with a ceiling mounted projector, motorized screen and sound system. Follett InfoCentre software, an integrated library automation software, is available for faculty and students to use to locate library materials. For access to Student Library Resources, visit www.tampaprep.org/library.

The library is open every school day from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except during assemblies, advising and special event days.

The Peifer Library is a vital link between the informational resources and the students and faculty who use them. The library provides timely, accurate information and resources that correlate to the curricular and individual needs of the students and faculty, and evolves as their needs dictate. Peifer Library is home to approximately 10,000 print, multimedia and eBook resources. The Virtual Reference Library eBooks may be fully and simultaneously accessed 24/7. The collection also expands with easy access from the Peifer Library website to the patron catalog of the Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco county Public Library systems. Through print, eBook, multimedia and online services and computer resources, the Peifer Library strives to enrich the students in knowledge, in enjoyment and in development of information literacy skills for the 21st century.

Special collections are available for the Tampa Preparatory School community, i.e. a Parent Education cart for parents, Help Shelf books for students, college-related books for Upper School students and the Tampa Prep Authors and Artists collection.

A Challenged Book and Library Materials Policy Committee consisting of the Head of School, the Library Media Specialist, Upper and Middle School teachers and parents, the College Counselor, the Director of Communications and Alumni Relations and the Student Council President is in place in the event that any library material is challenged.

Volunteer opportunities are available; contact Mrs. Carole Holway, Library Media Specialist, for further information.
