Coaching Background: Coach Smith has an extensive soccer background.  In college, Smith played on teams that were consistently ranked in the top twenty (of Division I teams in the country).  In 1995, Smith captained the University of Maryland and helped lead the (Maryland) Terrapins to the NCAA "sweet-sixteen."  After college, Smith played four seasons of professional soccer in the National Professional Soccer League (Miami, FL) and the Continental Indoor Soccer League (Washington, D.C.).
Smith served as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Maryland in 2003, a season during which the Maryland Terrapins were a "final four" participant. Since Smith has been with the soccer program at Tampa Prep, the team has won five state championships.  Smith has been named the Florida Dairy Farmers Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2013, the Tampa Tribune's Coach of the Year in 2010, 2012, and 2013, and the Tampa Bay Times’ Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2013.  In 2013, Smith was also named the NSCAA’s (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Florida Coach of the Year.  With multiple connections at next level, Coach Smith has also helped develop multiple players for collegiate competition.  One of Smith's primary goals for Tampa Prep soccer is not only to win on the field, but also to help develop student-athletes for collegiate soccer and for life beyond Tampa Prep.
Assistant Coach: John Bamford
Coaching Background:  Coach Bamford brings an impressive soccer background to Tampa Prep, and he has an unparalled knowledge and passion for the game.   Growing up in Califormia, Coach Bamford played for both the Olympic Development Program's West Region and the United States U-17 National Team. Bamford took his skills (both athletic and academic) to Harvard University, where he played for a standout Ivy League side.  Coach Bamford has contributed immensely to the program’s success, and has played a significant role in the three state championships the program has won since 2010 (when he joined the program).
Goalkeeper Coach:  Kevin Keelan
Coaching Background:  Coach Keelan's experience as a player and coach is second to none.  Keelan played for the Norwich City Football Club in both the First and Second Divisions of the English Football League.  He was voted MVP and received the "Best Goalkeeper" award while playing for the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the North American Soccer League in 1978.   Keelan has coached as an assistant at the University of Tampa and as a goalkeeper trainer for the Tampa Bay Mutiny (of the MLS). Keelan has been involved in goalkeeper training for over twenty-five years, and is still very much involved with local soccer clubs.  More information about Coach Keelan may be found here.
