Coaching Background: Justin Smith was named head coach of rowing for Tampa Preparatory in the summer of 2008.  Justin is a graduate and a former coach of Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. As  a four-year member of Washington College Men's Varsity Heavyweight Four Justin accumulated multiple first place regatta medals, in addition to a 1st Place Petite Finals finish at the ECAC National Championship Regatta.  Justin also currently holds two Top 5 All-Time Erg scores at Washington College in the 6000meter and 5000meter event.  Additionally, Justin was mentored at Washington College by rowing director Mike Davenport--a former Assitant to the US World Championship team from 1992 - 1995, and the primary educational consultant for USRowing.
Accomplishments: 2010: Led Tampa Prep to two State Championships in the Girl's and Boys Freshman four; 2 West District Championships in the Girls and Boys Freshman Four, silver medalist women's JV four, and Bronze medalist women's Varsity Four. 2009: Led Tampa Tampa Prep a top 10 National finish, two State Championships (Women's Lightweight Four and Varsity Four), and first overall Youth Rowing Championship (Women's Lightweight Four); 3 City Championships in the Women's Lightweight Four, Women's Varsity Four, Men's Novice Four, and Women's Freshman Four.
As the Head Men's Novice Coach for Washington College during the 2007-2008 season, Justin lead his crew to a 1st place finish in the 2008 Mid-Atlantic Division III Championship, 1st Place finish at the Occoquan Sprints, a Petite Finals appearance at Knecht Cup, and 9th overall out of 55 boats in the Dad Vail's National Championships Regatta

Alma Mater: University of Tampa, Villanova University School of Law
Rowing Background: A native of the Philadelphia area, Jim Preston rowed for Monsignor Bonner High School and Penn A.C. Rowing Association, before joining the University of Tampa Crew in 1976.  After graduating from U.T., where he rowed as a scholarship athlete for four years, Jim attended law school at Villanova University.  Jim remains active in rowing and competes in masters sculling events as a member of the Tampa Rowing Club.  Jim has served as an assistant coach to the Tampa Prep Crew since 2007.  Jim has also coached for the Stewards Foundation and Boulder (CO) Community Rowing.
