Located in the Heart of Downtown Tampa
The 102,000 sq. ft., three-story classroom building, with an adjacent theater complex, houses academic and arts classrooms, labs and studios, as well as administrative offices. WiFi is available throughout the entire campus in conjunction with our iPad one-to-one program. The recently renovated Middle School features Active Learning Environments – customizable spaces that enhance student collaboration and creativity. Complete with green screens, Redcat sound system by Lightspeed and ergonomic furniture designed by Steelcase and HON, students can lead class discussions, present their work on various displays and work together or individually all in one space.
Custom Spaces for Specialized Studies
Inside the 15,000 square foot Walter Athletic Complex you’ll find two full-size basketball/volleyball courts with retractable bleacher seating, a wrestling room with padded floors, a wellness and training facility featuring weights, cardio equipment and sports medicine space/equipment. Outdoor athletic areas include Colwill Swimming and Diving Center, lighted field for soccer, baseball, lacrosse or softball, access to the Hilllsborough River for rowing and additional basketball courts.
In the Video Production classroom and studio, students use professional equipment such as Blackmagic Cinema Cameras, iPads, Mac Pros, Panasonic P2 cameras and a suite of software Final Cut Pro X, Motion, After Effects and Compressor editing software programs. The soundproof studio is outfitted with a green screen and teleprompter, curtains, lightning and sound for quality production.
Within the walls of the Flipped Classroom, students work at convertible workstations surrounding four 42” Smart Displays. Connections allow both teacher and students to sync their device’s screen to the displays throughout the room for ultimate collaboration.
Peifer Library is a beautiful 10,000-square-foot space under our signature dome. Apple computers, online services and more than 9,300 books and videos offer students every opportunity for research and literary reflection. A retractable screen and amplified sound allow this trademark area to be used as an impressive, comfortable presentation venue.
Available online services are: Britannica, Gale’s Expanded Academic ASAP, Student Resources in Context, Scribner Writers Series, and Twayne’s Authors Series in addition to Gale’s Virtual Reference Library, SIRS Researcher, ProQuest CultureGrams™, Oxford Quick Reference and Teen Health and Wellness.
Several performances take place each year in Smith Black Box Theater, a convertible space that seats 250 guests in a variety of configurations. Students learn lighting and sound on high-tech equipment and run shows from various areas behind the scenes within the space. Arts facilities also include a Dance studio, ceramic kiln and several spaces for exhibiting student art.
The Student Center offers a meeting space with retractable screen and state-of-the-art sound. Students eat lunch in this area each day, surrounded by glass doors that open to the covered courtyard and picturesque Meg Heisel Memorial Garden.
