Life in the D.O.Insights from the Development Office at Tampa Prep
By Meg Huntley
Because of Tampa Prep's tradition and contagious school spirit, Alumni Reunions have always been a wonderful place to celebrate our community. Reminiscing on past experiences and sharing the new energy and growth of the school as the years go on is an important part of the Terrapin culture.
Our Alumni Board started planning a Tampa Prep Reunion about a year ago, and the event they had put so much work into finally came together. Our goal as leadership of the Alumni Association was to give everyone a chance to do all of the things most reunions bring, but with the entire Prep family, from teachers, retired faculty, members of the Board of Trustees and alumni from every class. Committees were formed and the journey to reach out to our 3,300+ alumni began. Our small group personally emailed, called, sent invitations and used other venues to communicate to their contacts and reach out to as many alumni as possible. The hard work paid off, and and we immediately started to receive great feedback and response from our first graduating class of 1977 all the way through our most recent grads.

The event turned out to be a smash hit! With more Tampa Prep alumni in one room than ever before, we came together for an evening filled with special pieces of the Prep community. As you walked into The Vault, a beautiful event venue in downtown Tampa owned by Susannah Smith, class of '87, and Ashley Wilson, class of '85, you were greeted with live music from Alumni Ben Schmid, class of 2002. The room was filled with beautiful flowers and Tampa Prep spirit flags with a delicious spread of food from Spain Restaurant, also owned by a Tampa Prep family. Alumni Terrapins and their guests wore name tags with their senior photos and class years as they sipped on specialty cocktails complete with smoking and bubbling dry ice.

who are now current Tampa Prep parents (or parents of graduates)!
It was clear as you looked around the room that classmates were reuniting and alumni were thrilled, even waiting in line to chat with their favorite teachers and mentors from years ago. Camera flashes and laughing groups of friends were a constant as we recognized our Alumni Board President, Susannah Smith, and a large group of Tampa Prep alumni, who now have their own children attending Tampa Prep.

Being a new addition to the Tampa Prep family made this a very special party for me. It is truly an exceptional place made up of genuine and passionate people that continue to grow and learn together. It is our hope that events like these continue to grow and our goal to make our Alumni Association stronger with your help. Please make sure your information is updated in our system by clicking here. We would like to stay in touch with you, and we urge you to use the community to network and keep in touch with friends, advisors and mentors that made a significant impact on your young lives.
Thank you for being a part of the Terrapin family.
