Team Overview

Drive, dedication, commitment – these are all traits that runners at Tampa Prep possess. Track & Field requires athletes to compete in multiple events through the course of meets that span several hours. Their ability to maintain focus, despite fatigue, is an integral part of success on the track that is mirrored in their lives off the track.

Our daily training schedule is rigorous and involves current training techniques from the track world. Athletes train and compete from January to May with the season culminating at the State Championships. Tampa Prep Track & Field, like all teams at Tampa Prep, has its sights set on an appearance at the State meet year in and year out for both the girls and boys teams.

Coaching Background: Coach Clements comes from a running family.  He began competing with his brother, sister and father in road races at the age of 10 in upstate New York.  In high school, he participated in varsity cross country and track, where he set the school record in the high jump and was ranked 5th in New York State.  In college he competed in indoor track where he was the Niagra Association High Jump Champion, 1995.  Since 1992, Coach Clements has participated as an assistant and head coach in several running programs in New York, Virginia and most recently was the head Boys Varsity Cross Country and head Girls Varsity Track & Field coach at Alonso High School in Tampa. Over the years he has met with success in leading several athletes to participate in regional and state competitions.  Coach Clements’ approach to coaching relies on motivating his runners to believe in their abilities on and off the track, both mentally and physically, as well as to teach them teamwork, leadership and self-discipline. He is excited to be part of the Tampa Prep faculty in the English Department as well.
