Matthew Reed Danahy (“Matt”) is a Tampa native. He attended Tampa Prep. beginning in 1976 and graduated in 1979 as part of the schools 3rd graduating class. Matt then attended and graduated from the University of Florida (1983) and Stetson University College of Law (1986). While in law school, he completed an accredited program in law at Oxford University, England. Matt is the founding partner of Danahy & Murray, a law firm which exclusively represents insured individuals, businesses and condominium associations for property damage claims and coverage denials throughout Florida.

Matt is AV rated by the Martindale-Hubbell legal rating service, signifying the highest degree of professional excellence and ethics. He is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by both the Florida Bar and The National Board of Trial Advocacy. Board Certification is a distinction enjoyed by less than 7% of Florida attorneys. Matt is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), an invitation only organization of experienced trial attorneys and judges dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the right to jury trial.

Matt has been selected as one of the Florida Legal Elite in the field of insurance law by Florida Trend Magazine (2011, 2012 and 2019) and by Florida Super Lawyers (2007-2019).

Matt has been actively involved in Tampa Prep for many years. He is a founding member of the Tampa Prep Alumni Association, and is past Chair of the schools annual Golf Outing. In 2011, he received the Tampa Preparatory School Distinguished Alumnus Award. In 2011 he was elected to the Tampa Preparatory School Board of Trustees, and in 2017 he was elected to serve as Board President.

Matt and his wife Lori are the proud parents of two Tampa Prep Terrapins: Conor ’17 and Lauren ’18.
