On Sept. 16, 1974, 40 young men and women filtered into an old livestock barn that would become Tampa Preparatory School.
Accessing the School
The Cypress Street extension gate will close during school hours and after 4:15 p.m. daily, except on special occasions. All guest / visitors arriving between 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., will use the Cass Street entrance. Please note, the there is no through-campus traffic allowed during the hours of 8:00 - 8:50 a.m. and 2:45- 3:45 p.m. The map below outlines the two routes for drop off and pick up.
Only faculty, staff and seniors may park in the Cass Street parking lot. All guest/ visitors should check in with one of our security guards and will be directed to visitor parking.
The preferred area for students to be dropped off and picked up is the turnaround in front of Walter Athletic Complex. Cars enter campus from N. Boulevard. Going north on N. Boulevard, turn right into the Julian B. Lane Riverfront parking area (via Cypress St.), then right into the campus, and then turn right into the turnaround. Cars must retrace the same route to exit onto N. Boulevard.
An alternate route is to access the School through the front gate from Cass St. Note that this route takes drivers through both the senior parking lot and faculty lot. Backups occur during peak arrival and departure times.
Students are reminded that driving and parking at school are privileges. All students driving vehicles to school must display a current parking decal in the lower left corner (driver’s side) of the rear window. If students are using a vehicle other than the one normally driven to school, a temporary parking permit may be issued for the day only. Parking decals may be obtained from the Receptionist.
Seniors may park in the Cass Street parking lot by the river. Seniors will access their parking from Cass Street only. Other student drivers will park in the Cypress Street extension (immediately north of campus) at Riverfront Park, accessible only from N. Boulevard.
Parking areas are patrolled by Tampa Prep Security and Tampa Prep staff that will issue parking citations ($25 fine for each violation). Parking violations are given to students for the following reasons:
- Students who are not seniors parking in a senior space.
- Parking at any time in spaces marked “Handicapped,” “Visitor,” “Faculty,” or “Busses.”
- Parking on the grass or sprinkler system
- Failure to obtain a parking permit for the current school year
- Any observance of reckless or discourteous driving (this will also result in the suspension of parking privileges)
