Parent Volunteer Opportunities 2014-15

There are numerous ways for parents to participate in the life of the Tampa Prep community, and signing on to help with one or more Tampa Prep Parents Alliance (TPPA) activities is a great place to start.

Fill in your contact information below, then follow the prompts and check all the activities you would like to be involved in. Your will be added to the email list and contacted by those grade-level representatives or committee/event chairs.

We invite ALL interested parents, stepparents, grandparents, guardians, etc. to sign up for TPPA activities, so please share the link to this page. Please interpret our use of "parent" to include all these adults who are interested in becoming more involved at Tampa Prep.

More details about specific events and activities will be provided in the TPPA section of the weekly electronic newsletter published every Thursday by the School, and via emails sent to you either by an event coordinator or by the TPPA Communications Coordinator. Grade Level Helpers

Throughout the school year, there are various opportunities to participate in grade-level activities coordinated by each grade’s Class Team Representatives. If you would like to help with some of these grade-level TPPA activities, please check the appropriate grade(s).​​

Middle School Activities

TPPA sponsors various activities specific to the Middle School. MS Class Team Representatives organize and coordinate these events with the MS Administration and each activity requires additional help from Middle School parents.  Please check each activity you are interested in.

On the last day of spirit week (early in the fall semester), lunch is provided for all Middle School students and faculty. Help is needed for up to 2 hours to set up, serve and clean up. ​​​​​​​​
The first dance of the Middle School calendar (for 7th and 8th graders only) will take place in December. Seventh and eighth grade parents hire a DJ, plan the menu, decorate the venue and clean up. 6th grade parents are asked to chaperone this event.​​
This is a special treat for all our Middle School students and faculty early in the spring semester. Help is needed for up to 2 hours at lunchtime to set up, serve and clean up.​
Eighth grade students create a memorial commemorating a favorite historical person or event. These are presented during an evening program in the late spring. Help is needed to plan and obtain simple refreshments, set up, serve and clean up.​​
All Middle School students will be involved in field activities. Help is needed to set up, serve lunches, and assist with field games and activities.​
Middle School parents host this festive event near the end of the spring semester. Help is needed to plan the menu, purchase and prepare the food (including grilling the burgers and hot dogs), serve and clean up.

All Middle School students are invited to this evening event at the end of the spring semester. Help is needed to hire a DJ, plan and obtain snacks, decorate the venue, chaperone and clean up.​​​​

Upper School Activities

Once or twice a year depending upon interest, plan and coordinate an evening social for your grade level.​
Plan regular parent gatherings to meet for coffee or lunch.​

School-Wide Activities

TPPA conducts school-wide events and helps provide volunteers for other activities sponsored by Tampa Prep.  Signing up for one or more of the activities is a great way to meet parents from all grade levels.  All activities are comprised of several tasks, requiring different time commitments. Check all that interest you.

Servers are needed on August 18.​
Participation in the Annual Fund is essential to the financial life of Tampa Prep. Volunteers are needed to make phone calls, organize phonathons and thank donors.

This group of parents organizes special breakfasts, lunches and other “thank yous” for the faculty several times a year.

Working toward fulfilling the Tampa Prep mission of “going beyond”, this committee investigates and coordinates opportunities for Tampa Prep families to participate in community service projects in the greater Tampa area.

Plans Tampa Prep’s annual Gala to be held March 7, 2015. Auction duties include securing items and sponsors, envelope stuffing, décor creation and data management. All contributions of time and talent are welcome.

Plan and help on this day of fun and Terrapin golf held on Saturday, October 25. Proceeds from the Golf Outing benefit the Alumni Financial Assistance Fund.

Volunteers register our special guests, set up, serve and clean up a breakfast and lunch one day during second semester. Help for all or part of the day.

Reliable, detail-oriented volunteers needed to help in the Peifer Library.

This committee comprised of parents and administrators collaborates to organize educational presentations that address topics of interest to parents. Past topics included “Risky Teen Behaviors,” “Traffic Safety” and “Effective Study Skills.”​

Special Interest Groups

TPPA sponsors a variety of special interest groups. Signing up for one or more of these groups is a great way to meet parents from all grade levels. Participation in these groups is completely flexible; you may come to any or all of the meetings as your schedule permits, and you’re welcome to come even if you don’t sign up below. Check the box of each group you may be interested in.  

Join with other Prep parents on the first Wednesday of each month (starting in September) at 2:00 p.m. in the Large Conference Room at School. The group chooses book selections. You’re welcome to attend if you haven’t read the book!​​
Explore the cultural riches and natural beauty of the Tampa Bay area while making new friends. Outing destinations will vary and may include visiting a local museum, biking, kayaking or exploring the Tampa RiverWalk. Suggestions for activities are always welcome. Outings often end by going out to lunch (optional, of course, if you only have limited time).

Here’s your opportunity to meet other Tampa Prep dads for socializing in casual, informal, no-strings-attached gatherings. Activities include conducting tailgating cookouts, grilling as needed and scheduling social times such as lunches or happy hours.​
Join this informal group of International parents who meet monthly at a Prep family home for coffee. Get acquainted, share cultures and learn more about what goes on at Tampa Prep.
